For our founder, Shane Toohey, learning and adventure have always been interconnected. He has organised ski expeditions around the world, and through these adventures, he has learned the importance of chasing goals, overcoming fear, and the keys to high-performance teamwork.
In 2002, while on the summit of Two Hummock Island in Antarctica, Shane had the idea of creating a “choose your own adventure” style of learning. He then developed an interactive video-based simulation, using DVD players to immerse the audience into the adventure. Even though technologies and gamification have evolved, the power of learning through adventure remains as strong as ever.

In 2006 we launched Peak Teams Inc. in the United States, with offices in California and New York. Over the following decade, we added ocean and exploration themes to our immersive learning experiences, as well as a host of other learning and development tools to improve leaders and teams.
Our unforgettable methodology and approach has inspired hundreds of thousands of individuals around the globe and has allowed us to become the trusted partner for many of the world's largest organizations.
2023 was an exciting year for the business with the creation of our new Gamified Learning Experience called The Ascent. The simulation was filmed in Greenland as founder Shane Toohey led a group of ski mountaineers on a journey through a uniquely challenging mountain environment. 2024 promises to exciting as well as Kevin Vallely undertakes an extreme expedition to the Canadian High Arctic that will be among one of the coldest, darkest, most challenging Arctic journeys ever attempted.
